”Medicinal herbal knowledge at the depth & breadth of experienced herbalists.”
An essential component of an herbalist’s “toolkit,” Materia Medica is a compendium of knowledge of a large number of healing plants. Class is open to newcomers, enthusiasts, and to those with an herbal background wishing to deepen their understanding of herbalism and expand their herbal repertoire.
During each class, we’ll investigate 5 herbs. Classes cover names, parts of plants used, “taste,” “energetics,” location and gathering time, constituents, medicinal uses (Chinese, Western, Indigenous traditions), cautions and contraindications, preparations, dosages for tea and extract, other useful information. Students can sample medicines (when available) as extracts and/or teas to gain first-hand experience of the plants’ “energetics.” Participants also receive a one-ounce bottle of their choice of one of the herbs discussed that evening ($10-$15 retail value).
Class meets: Wednesday – February 17, 24, March 2 2016
